Trump Administration Increases Deportations of Southeast Asian Refugees

The Trump administration is sending back record numbers of individuals to Vietnam, Laos, and Hmong communities. Many of these individuals originally arrived in the United States as young war refugees seeking safety. Over time, some of these refugees later committed crimes within the country. This enforcement action targets long-term residents who have lived in the United States for decades. For instance, one case involves a person who fled to America at age eleven. That same individual later stole at age eighteen. Ultimately, the enforcement culminated in deportation back to Vietnam at age forty-four. This policy reflects ongoing federal efforts regarding criminal deportations.
